Fluorescence Fluorescence is the result from the interaction between the atoms in a diamond and a light’s energy. Generally fluorescence in diamond is neutral in most circumstances. Fluorescence can have a positive impact on beauty when it makes a tinted diamond’s color look better. Fluorescence can have a negative impact on beauty when it is so strong that it causes the diamond to look milky or oily. This generally only happens in a diamond with very strong fluorescence. Fluorescence generally lowers a diamond’s value minutely but can actually add value to lower color stones by making them appear whiter.
